A little about me…

Welcome to my new website! I know it’s not much right now but I will be adding content to it as soon as possible. For now I wanted to do a post that tells you a little about me.

I am public relations master’s student at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications. Moving to Syracuse was quite the move for me because I am originally from Meridian, Idaho (right outside of Boise) and had spent most of the last two years living in Los Angeles. So the East Coast is a whole new world for me.

I got my bachelor’s degree in Film and Television Production at Montana State University, which is why I was spending a lot of my time after graduation in LA. I was having a hard time finding PAYING film work in LA though, so I had a lot of down time. I don’t do well with a lot of down time, I like to stay busy. During all this downtime I got to thinking about what else I could be doing. I also wanted a more stable job – something the film industry doesn’t offer much of. Also during this down time in LA I had been working as an assistant to a publicist off and on and I really enjoyed it and everything I was learning. That experience coupled with already thinking about a career change helped me decided to go to grad school for public relations, which is how I ended up at Newhouse.

I came into Newhouse thinking that I wanted to follow my other passion and do public relations with in the world of Motorsports. While I would still take a job with in motorsports, it’s not my first choice anymore. I miss film and LA, it has and always will be my first love and passion. So my career goals are to go work with in the world of entertainment PR. I would love to work for a studio in their PR department, working on PR for films and TV. I also have a love of social media and want to work in a position where that would be a big aspect of my job.

As for my other interests, I have already mentioned I love motorsports.

Not NASCAR though, I am a huge road racing fan and I follow Grand-Am and IndyCar religiously, and I try and keep up with a few other series as much as I can. I also have the opportunity to be a freelance photographer and videographer, mainly shooting Grand-Am races and a few other series, which I LOVE doing. I love capturing the emotions, action, people and hard work that goes into a sport that I love.

I am also a total geek. I love things like ‘Firefly,’ ‘Dr. Horrible’ – pretty much anything by Joss Whedon – ‘Star Wars’, ‘The Guild’ and ‘Battlestar Galatica.’ My current favorite TV shows are ‘Castle’ and ‘The Newsroom.’ My favorite movies are ‘Moulin Rouge,’ ‘The Prestige’ and ‘Casino Royale’. I love Ewan McGregor, Nathan Fillion, Johnny Depp, Nicole Kidman and Emma Stone. I am a huge fan of country music and indie rock, Snow Patrol would have to be my favorite band. I love to read and wish I had more time to do it outside of textbooks. Last books I read were ‘The Hunger Games’ series and my favorite books are Harry Potter, ‘The Art of Racing in the Rain’ and ‘Go Like Hell.’  I love the outdoors – camping, hiking, boating, going to the lake or beach – and sports. I played softball and ice hockey when I was younger and varsity lacrosse in high school. My favorite thing to do though is just hang out with my friends, whether that be watching a movie or going on an adventure for a day.

So that is a little about me, feel free to ask any questions or check out any of my social media accounts and portfolios. I will try and update this blog and website as often as grad school will let me.

  1. Hi Kristina–Nice blog post! I am especially glad you inserted photos. Those plus the conversational tone made it really feel personal and story-like. Is that you in the last photo? It’s a very nice one. It was nice getting to know more about you and learn about your path to PR. We’ll talk more in the next few weeks about tips for good blogging. See you Wednesday!
